I’m a bit of a thrill-seeker, but I will be the first to admit I have never been a sporty girl. I did some gymnastics, dance, some backyard volleyball when I was younger, but never went very far. I’m not sure as to why, but I never saw it as a priority. However, that changed this winter when I was talked into snowboarding by my boyfriend and brother. I could have taken the easier way out and gone for skiing but after thinking it over, I decided this is something I really want to prove to myself that I can do something completely foreign to me and even athletic!
So, I sucked it up got some gear and headed out on the slopes last month. And man was it painful… the very first time we went the snow wasn’t very snowy but more like a slick sheet of ice. It was extremely difficult to turn on and very unforgiving when we fell. Even though the guys picked it up faster than myself it was nice to have people to fall with the first few runs.
I’ve been five times now and after multiple lessons I’m really starting to get the hang of it. It’s terribly cliche, but I pushed through the sweat, tears and bruises and I am actually having fun now! Cruising down the mountain can be terrifying, yes, but also very liberating and exciting. The most rewarding part of it all, is that I stayed determined and didn’t just give up like I had done so many times before. I still fall and I still have a lot to learn but I’ve come a long way and that makes it all worth it.
My pretty board!

Why am I writing this in a photography blog? Well, for one there’s not much to report on, but primarily because I want to encourage everyone to try something new. Whether its getting involved in a new sport, a new hobby, starting a business, or whatever it may be just try something you’ve always wanted to do. It’s terribly easy to get caught in a rut and make excuses but why?

Be adventurous 🙂 ~Kim
