Fit and Fab Friday: Savory Oatmeals

I first encountered savory oatmeal when I received Giada’s Feel Good Food for Christmas last year. Her recipe includes olive oil, herbs, and salt. Sounds like pretty weird stuff to put in oatmeal, right? Anything that is not strawberries & cream or maple & brown sugar flavored oatmeal is a little taboo for most people so I had to try it for myself and was pleasantly surprised. It’s kind of similar in taste to eating pasta and because it is so simple and nourishing it’s a great meal any time of day.

Since then I have been experimenting with my own non-sugary oatmals. Here are a few of my favorite combinations:

Basic: 1/3c Oatmeal + 1/2tbs Olive oil or Almond oil + pinch of salt

Full Breakfast: 1/3c Oatmeal + 1 egg (over easy) + ½ avocado (sliced)

With Yogurt: Basic version + 1-2tbs of plain greek yogurt

With Pumpkin: Basic version + 1-2tbs pumpkin puree + cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice

What flavor combinations might you enjoy?
